I sew....

Beach2009 051

Therefore I keep my make-up in a Ziploc baggie.

Huh?

Beach2009 054

Not anymore!

Beach2009 052

I whipped this baby up in about 15 minutes the other day.

I used the basic idea from "Bend the Rules Sewing" since it's such an quick and easy bag to make.  I made one for my Mom for her Birthday in April for her medication, I like her's way better!  Mine was more of a spur of the moment thing........... after looking down at that horrible bag it dawned on me that I should actually make myself something pretty.

Just a question.... anyone out there that sews or creates pretty things to sell but never or rarely makes things for yourself, like me?  Why oh why do we do that?

Well, not me anymore!  I now put my face on with that pretty bag with pretty colors with a pretty embroidered flower by my side.  I suggest ya'll do the same.... TODAY!

It's washable too!

Where I've been...

Crazy-ville.... that's where!  I'm ashamed to have neglected my little blog for so long.... truly I am.  I've just been kinda slammed with orders, a messy home, a tired body and four kids.  Nuff said.

Last week however, my Mom generously invited Amelia Claire, Avonlea and myself to stay a week in a hotel overlooking the beach in Daytona Florida.  The beach was fun, the pool was cool, the shopping was great and the food was darn right yummy.  Here's a few pictures of that week ..... of course of just my girls so don't be kidding yourselves that there would be any of me in my suit!  Cracks me up!

Bustle & The Max

Every so often I get a bee in my bonnet and feel the need to make something new.  Day after day of making The Amelia Halter can become really, really, really, really

boring.

Bustle7

So, I put everything aside and made two things that have been dancing around in my mind.  The first thing I made was a bustle skirt.

Bustle1

I bought one like this from Victoria's Secret years ago and wore the crud out of it and have wanted to make one for Amelia since she was a baby.

Bustle6

It has a flat front and a gathered back with a long bow trailing down the back.

Bustle10

I couldn't resist taking her out to be among the Black-Eyed-Susans that fill our yard during the Spring.

Bustle8

She liked it but LOVED THIS ONE....

The Mini Max Dress

Minimax1

Can you tell she liked this one better?

Minimax2

She said it was her new princess dress....

I think it was the length that sealed the deal!

Minimax5

I'll be getting the measurements down and will begin offering these two new pieces for Etsy.  Sizing can be difficult.... and nerve wracking.  Yikes!

Minimax3

Today I'll be attempting a "Photo Shoot" with both girls for an upcoming online magazine ad I've got scheduled to be out this month.

Minimax4

The online magazine is called 'Small'... you must take a peek at this sweet magazine!  I adore it and "flip" through each page whenever a new one is released.  This month on the 20th, the Summer edition will be out and I just can't wait to see the amazing layouts they have come up with.

If you've never seen it..... do it, you'll love it!!

What do you make

a person who has no more room for stuff?

Mom's Birthday 094

That's right, something useful and if it just so happens to be something pretty....... it's even better.

Momblog17

For my Mom's 70th birthday I made her a fold over bag to hold all of her medications..... mostly for when she travels or goes on little trips to Daytona.

Momblog18

I chose a pretty table runner than was in great shape.  I trimmed the sides to make it more even, cut it in half and then sewed it right sides together and along the bottom.  I "paper bagged" the bottom and made a lining out of a sweet reproduction print in pinks and blues.

Momblog21

I sewed in a white pony-tail holder in the center of the bag between the linen and the lining.

Momblog23

Then made a button to match the lining.

(I am presently taking donations for a manicure....)

Momblog24

Then sewed it to the bag being certain to mark the correct spot first with a mark-b-gone marker.  I love those things!

Mom's Birthday 041

I added a copy of "Dozen's of ways to Repurpose a Pillowcase" to the bag too.  I fit perfectly!

Mom's Birthday 043

I also added a "gift certificate" for a cheesecake made with Splenda for her trip to Daytona with my Aunt Rosemary.

Mom's Birthday 062

I think she liked it!

My Mudda's Birfday

(Thank you so much for the quilt love last week!)

My Mom's birthday was on the 16th.... and this is what we did to celebrate.

We girls decided to load her up and take her to Jacksonville for shopping and lunch.  We went to a great antique/collectibles place that we had never been to called something, something antiques..... if I could only remember what the name of the place was called.  I'll get back to you on that one.... I loved it and found awesome things to buy there and will show them off tomorrow or Wednesday.  First of all....... I have to show you this:

Momblog1

I like to watch my Mom get into my car.  I own a Tahoe but you'd think it was a Hummer or a tank or dump truck or something.

Momblog2

And those glasses....... don't let them fool you.  She's not blind....

Momblog3

Almost there.....

Momblog4

Two veeks later.....

Momblog5

This is Avonlea and her Aunt Jerri.... my sister who lives in New York.  She came down special for Mom's birthday and the party.  She's doing her best to make friends..... NOT an easy task with this baby!

Momblog6

She likes her Mommy, alot but who can blame her right?  Right?

I'll just move along.....

Momblog7

Mom bought some defective earrings at the first place we went to while we waited for THE antique store to open.

Momblog8

If'n this baby doesn't see her Mama.... she might okay.  Might be.

Momblog9

Then to chili's.... incidentally the one that Darren, My Angel of a Husband and I went to on our first date.

IT WAS A VERY, VERY GOOD DATE!!

Momblog10

Debi, my other sister told out waitress that it was her birthday and to bring her Cheesecake... and she did.  We sang Happy Birthday to her and she got teary.... big shock there ya'll.  And, she shared it with Amelia Claire.

Momblog11

Brookie, Darlene and Marla got to come too!  It made it even more special!

Brooke & Marla are my nieces... Darlene is their Mama and she is married to my brother John.  Bless her.

Momblog12

Debi..... she's my sister, shopping partner, babysitter and friend.   And, she likes to hit me.  She will be hitting me when she reads this blog and see's her picture.  Please pray for my recovery.

Thank you.

Momblog13

Mia got her very own piece....

Cheesecake

And repaid Nanny for her generosity.

Momblog15

We went to Books-A-Million.... they just so happened to have my book upon their shelf.

Momblog16

It's actually not MY book..... you know.  I am a part of this book... "Dozen's of Ways to Repurpose a Pillowcase".  I should figure out a better way to explain it.

I'll work on it.... very, very soon.

Momblog17

And finally, I made her something with this vintagr linen that I'll blog about tomorrow.  I'm sorta being bombarded by a needy baby.

Be back soon!

Quilt2[1]

That's how many of these there are in Avonlea's new patchwork quilt.

Quilt1[1]

I cut them 2 1/2" square and sewed them together any old way they happened to turn up in my stack.

Quilt3[1]

(That's a total lie... I'm sorry, please forgive me.  I have a hard time NOT matching colors.... there were many a time that I kinda sorta pretented to accidentally not match squares up that sorta kinda matched.  I'm sorta kinda ashamed.... sorta.)

Quilt6[1]

I sewed them in rows of 20 until I ran out....

Quilt5[1]

Then I ironed them.... just to make them nice and neat.

QUILT%20014[1]

And this is the outcome of all the long, hard & tedious hours I spent sewing and ironing and NOT matching up colors.

QUILT%20015[1]

(That was another lie.... I sewed the rows in one and a half evenings, my sister Jerri-Lynn put on the backing, machine quilted it and also sewed the binding.  Well, actually.......... I finished the binding on my machine 'cause I was too hurried to do it by hand. )

QUILT%20001[1]

I threw it in the washer with lots and lots of Downy to make it nice and soft.

QUILT%20003[1]

Then snuck it ino her crib while she slept.

QUILT%20005[1]

When she woke up.....

QUILT%20013[1]

She was so excited to see something made by her Mama..... just for her!

QUILT%20006[1]

I exaggerated a litte.  She was actually standig on it crying.

So Whatever.

QUILT%20011[1]

One day, I'm sure she'll love it and appreciate what it means.
